I think excluding religion from government was a mistake
It has been widely suggested that religion and government should have no business interfering with one another, and secularism has been argued as a better civilization. This is partly true; in the middle ages, Christian integrated itself into every legal part of society to the point it became the governments around Europe. While Secularism made things partially better for people and the religious people don't directly interfere with political affairs, this puts Christians, Muslims, and their masters, Jews, in a very, very good position to influence and manipulate politicians from the shadows. Two commonalities between current governments and the Abrahamic religions is that they use fearmongering and mandates to get their way. Musician Frank Zappa grimly implied in a 1985 interview that Evangelicals, a sect of Christianity, "keep putting on this smokescreen about government meddling religion, but really it's religion meddling in government because of the influence they [the Evangelists] have there." (Zappa 1985) The politicians won't make a state religion, but this won't stop the religious leaders from secretly meddling in government affairs. Even though Atheists had jumped to the conclusion too quickly, the conclusion they came to, however, indeed was correct. The facts they've used to reach their answer, on the other hand, are wrong (not completely the case, though; they just applied this to every religion when it's just the Abrahamic ones and Buddhism.) on Youtube videos about crime, I've always wondered if the churches, mosques, and synagogues had a roundabout hand in making people delinquent troublemakers on the streets, and yet, all I hear frequently is how "God" will punish these criminals in hell. It's ironic, as Judaism, Christianity, and Islam with their "holy" texts condoning (but not limited to) murder (mass murder, at that), rape, infant slaughter, destruction of families, burned offerings, and poverty. For Christians and Muslims, the evil and crime rates they detest so much would condoned by their "holy" texts.
